Indus Towers was created with a vision to transform the telecom industry. For us, our vision is not just Boardroom talk – it is shared by each and every Indusian across the vast geographies that we cover.
And it is this wholehearted pursuit of excellence that propels us through our transformational journey, with exceptional results. As India’s largest telecom tower company, Indus Towers is an enabler for the communication revolution in India. Indus touches 600 million people every day, multiple times a day. 3 out of every 5 calls in India are made through an Indus site.
Indus provides the most extensive network of infrastructure to all telecom operators and other wireless services providers across India.
Indus provides the most extensive network of infrastructure to all telecom operators and other wireless services providers across India. We currently operate in 15 (out of a total of 22) telecom circles in India — Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Kerala, Rajasthan, Kolkata, UP East, UP West, West Bengal, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Punjab, Haryana and Tamil Nadu. These circles account for 84% of the total telecom revenues in the country. More importantly, they bring connectivity and opportunity to even those parts of India where roads and electricity are yet to reach.
Disrupting the norm is not new to Indus Towers. After all, Indus Towers came into being by disrupting the norm.
Collaboration among competitors to share tower infrastructure was unheard of in the telecom industry, at the time. But that’s what we proposed. Following which, in 2007, Indus was set up as a joint venture between three fierce competitors - Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular— who combined their towers to provide shared telecom infrastructure to wireless telecom operators on a non-discriminatory basis. Today, Indus Towers is a game-changing market leader with the largest portfolio of telecom towers in India.
Indus Towers is the largest telecom project delivery machine in the world; delivering one project every two minutes.
The telecom infrastructure industry today stands at 4.5 lacs towers with a tenancy ratio of 1.9. Meanwhile, Indus Towers is ahead of the curve with a tenancy ratio of over 2.3, resulting in huge energy optimisation.
Innovation and technology have always been key differentiating factors for Indus.
Our constant endeavour is to not only provide an uninterrupted 24x7 service across India but to do so in the most green manner. Indus has already converted over 54% of our tower portfolio to ‘green sites’ – where no diesel is used. We are looking to progressively increase our green sites, shift from diesel to the grid wherever possible and find innovative solutions to achieve a zero carbon footprint. Our aim is to source at least 10% of our energy needs from renewable energy, and use this to increase telecom penetration in rural India, especially in parts not yet electrified.
We consider it our privilege to be playing a pivotal role in connecting an inclusive India.
By touching the lives of 600 million people every day, multiple times a day, Indus is hugely increasing India’s tele-density and consequently its GDP. (According to a study by McKinsey, every 10% increase in teledensity leads to a 1.2% increase in GDP). But what makes us most proud is that Indus is connecting the aspirations of a billion Indians with the opportunity to achieve them.
Indus has saved India a spectacular US$3 billion in capital expenditure through sharing telecom infrastructure. Indus’ green efforts have not only benefited our customers and business partners in terms of costs, they have also significantly reduced India’s carbon footprint. By cutting carbon emissions by 210 million liters of diesel since 2011-12, Indus has planted the equivalent of 14 million trees.
Indus has created 71,191 green sites and achieved a consolidated 99.98% uptime. But most importantly, Indus has kept India connected even in its darkest hours, in the face of calamitous natural disasters and adversity.
We continue to strive in our endeavour of ‘Putting India First’. And we will continue to disrupt the norm to get there.
Ensure best-in-class processes and a continuous improvement culture that provides reliability, scalability and highest quality at optimum cost
Be the preferred partner to our customers with the highest levels of responsiveness consistently
Maintain and promote the highest standards of professional conduct by being fair, honest and transparent in all actions and decisions
Think and work together beyond self, functional boundaries, hierarchies, businesses and geographies. Actively encourage mutual respect, sharing and collaboration
Be responsible and sensitive towards the environment and the communities in which we operate. Uphold the highest standards of health and safety
